The rest of them

Most focus apps are designed
to keep you open.

Others
Lock the F*ck In
Virtual trees and pets, for real money. Apps like Forest and Flora charge monthly subscriptions and use animated rewards to hold your attention. Gamification is not the same as discipline.
Hard app blocks.
No virtual rewards for doing what you should.
Streak ransoms. Miss one day and start over. These apps use anxiety about losing your streak as a retention mechanic. That is not how habits are built.
No gamification.
Streaks for accountability, not guilt.
€5–15 per month, indefinitely. Apps like Opal and Freedom gate core features behind subscriptions. Cancel and you lose access to the tool you relied on.
One purchase.
App blocking included. No subscription. No recurring fees.
Three separate apps for blocking, timing, and tracking, none of which share data. Multiple subscriptions for features that belong in one place.
App blocking, Pomodoro timer, habit tracking.
One app. One price.

They don't want you to build discipline.
They want to keep you subscribed.

Why it works

The science is real. We just don't make it the personality.

Pomodoro
Work in bursts.
Rest deliberately.

Structured intervals with enforced breaks improve sustained attention and reduce cognitive fatigue. Replicated across dozens of workplace productivity studies.

Cirillo, F. (1987). Staffan Nöteberg (2010).

Habit formation
66 days average.
Not 21. Range: 18–254.

The "21 days" myth is wrong. You need a tracker that doesn't quit before you do.

Lally et al. (2010). European Journal of Social Psychology.

App blocking
Attentional residue.

After checking a distraction, part of your attention stays on it even after you return to work. The only fix is not checking. Blocking removes the option entirely.

Frequently asked questions.

What is Lock the F*ck In?

A focus and discipline app for iOS. Block distracting apps, run Pomodoro sessions, track habits, and manage your tasks. Free for 7 days, then one-time purchase. No subscription, no ads, no bullshit.

When is it launching?

Soon. Join the waitlist and you'll be first to know. Confirmed waitlist gets early-access pricing locked at $15.

Is it really a one-time purchase?

Yes. Pay once, own it. No monthly fees, no renewal prompts. Covers ongoing updates to the version you bought. New, materially distinct modules may be sold separately.

What makes this different from Opal, Forest, or Freedom?

One-time price. No subscription. No virtual trees, no coins, no gamification. App blocking, habit tracking, a timer, and a to-do list. That's the whole thing. Nothing you don't need.

What platforms will it be on?

iOS first. Android will follow. Join the waitlist and select your platform. Android waitlisters get notified separately when it's ready.

What happens after I join the waitlist?

You get first notification when the app launches, plus an early-access discount code. Price locked at $15. That's it. No spam.

Can I get a refund?

Purchases are handled through the App Store. Apple's standard refund policy applies, requested via reportaproblem.apple.com. For non-payment issues, email [email protected] and we will look into it.

How is this different from iOS Focus Mode?

iOS Focus Mode silences notifications but apps still open if you swipe to them. LTFI blocks apps entirely during a session. You can't open them, period. It's the difference between mute and lockout.

Does it work as a Pomodoro timer app?

Yes. Pomodoro timer is built in. 25-minute work intervals, 5-minute breaks by default. You can also set custom durations. Unlike a standalone timer app, the app blocker activates automatically when your session starts.

Why not just use a free app blocker?

Most free app blockers are either very limited or ad-supported. LTFI gives you 7 days free, full access. If it works, you pay once. No subscription, no ads, no upsells.

Can I track habits in LTFI?

Yes. Habit tracking is built in. Log daily progress, see streaks, and track what you're building over time. No point system, no coins, no gamification. Just the data.
